Delivered on Behalf of the President, Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (CITM) By: Registrar Chief Executive ADEDOYIN OLUMIDE Ph.D FITM,FCNA

Occasion: Annual National Conference of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) Date: Tuesday, 16th – Thursday, 18th July, 2025 Theme: “Building Economic Resilience through Sustainable Practices, Transparent Reporting and Accountable Governance”

The President and Commander in Chief, The Honourable Minister of Finance, The President and Council Members of ANAN, The Distinguished CEO, Past Presidents, Fellows and Distinguished Members of ANAN, Heads of Sister Professional Bodies, Invited Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is with immense pleasure and a profound sense of duty that I stand before you today, representing the President of the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management (CITM), who sends his warmest regards and sincerest apologies for his unavoidable absence. He has asked me to convey his heartfelt congratulations to the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria for convening this pivotal gathering.

On behalf of the entire CITM family, I extend our warmest felicitations to ANAN on the occasion of your Annual National Conference. We commend your unwavering commitment to fostering discourse that shapes the economic destiny of our nation.

The choice of this year’s theme, “Building Economic Resilience through Sustainable Practices, Transparent Reporting and Accountable Governance,” is not only apt but critically urgent. In a global landscape marked by volatility, geo-political tensions, and climate challenges, Nigeria’s path to prosperity hinges on our collective ability to build an economy that can withstand shocks, adapt to change, and thrive in the face of adversity.

This theme brilliantly dissects the very pillars of such resilience:

· Sustainable Practices ensure our growth is not a fleeting boom but a lasting legacy, balancing economic needs with environmental and social responsibility.

· Transparent Reporting is the bedrock of trust—trust that attracts investment, secures financing, and gives stakeholders the clarity needed to make informed decisions.

· Accountable Governance provides the essential framework, ensuring that resources are managed judiciously, policies are implemented effectively, and leaders are answerable to the people.

Ladies and gentlemen, no single profession or institute holds the monopoly on the expertise required to erect these pillars. The intricate tapestry of our economy requires the deft hands of multiple professionals. This is where the power of collaboration becomes our most potent tool.

The symbiotic relationship between accountancy and treasury management is a prime example. You, the accountants, are the architects of financial integrity, crafting the narratives of past performance through meticulous reporting and auditing. We, the treasury managers, are the strategists of financial futures, navigating cash flow, managing risks, and securing the lifelines of capital that fuel national projects and corporate ambitions.

When ANAN champions transparent reporting and CITM advocates for prudent fiscal management and accountable governance, our mandates converge on the same goal: a stable, resilient, and prosperous Nigerian economy.

The mutual benefits of our collaboration for the Nigerian state are immense:

· For the Public Sector: It means more robust frameworks for managing public debt, more transparent budgeting processes, and more efficient allocation of scarce resources for infrastructural development.

· For the Private Sector: It fosters a business environment where corporate reporting integrity lowers the cost of capital, and sophisticated treasury management protects businesses from external shocks, enabling them to grow, employ, and contribute to the GDP.

· For the Economy: It builds a fortress of credibility around our financial systems, making Nigeria a premier destination for Foreign Direct Investment and a respected player in the global economic arena.

Therefore, let this conference be more than a discussion; let it be a clarion call for unity amongst professional bodies. Let us commit to breaking down silos, harmonizing our standards, and speaking with one voice on matters of national economic importance.

Once again, I congratulate the President and members of ANAN for your visionary leadership and for hosting this essential forum. The CITM remains a steadfast partner, ready to walk hand-in-hand with you and all other professional bodies to translate the ideals of this conference into tangible outcomes for our nation.

I wish you all fruitful deliberations and a highly successful conference.

Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
